The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from Madden 19 of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with some of the initial rankings of players. This article will look into the head-scratching Madden 19 ratings for the New York Jets.
Darron Lee
Lee may be one of the most disrespected players in terms of Madden rating in 2019. His 73-overall rating makes him the 15th highest rated defensive player on the Jets and 40th among all middle linebackers.
The 23-year old amassed 67 tackles and 3 sacks in 2017, which ranked second and fourth respectively among Jets players. New York’s leading tackler from 2017 was Demario Davis, who after moving to the New Orleans Saints in the offseason, was given an 85-overall rating. According to pro-football-reference.com, the approximate value of a player is used to “put a single number on the seasonal value of a player at any position from any year”. Lee’s approximate value in 2017 was 8, whereas Davis was just ahead of him at 9, although EA Sports has decided to create a 12-overall point difference between the two.
When we look at Lee’s rating compared to his current and former teammates, it is clear the former first-round pick is being majorly overlooked by EA Sports.
Marcus Maye
At 78-overall, Maye is tied as the 24th highest rated free safety in the NFL and fifth highest rated defensive back on the Jets in Madden 19. In 2017, the 25-year-old led New York in interceptions with 2, while also finishing with the second most solo tackles among Jet defensive backs with 56.
Maye’s safety counterpart is former first-round pick Jamal Adams, who is the highest rated Jet in Madden 19 at 86 overall. Adam’s finished 2017 with an approximate value of 7, just ahead of Maye’s 6, although EA Sports has decided that an overall discrepancy of 8 points is accurate for the pair. Maye’s overall will surely rise as the weeks pass in 2019.
Adjusted Ratings
Darron Lee: 82
Marcus Maye: 82
