The Eagles are away this weekend as they take on the Detroit Lions. They will be looking to bounce back from their loss to the Las Vegas Raiders last Sunday. Philadelphia comes into this game with a 2-5 record. Their only wins this year have come against the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. On the other hand, Â Detroit is still looking for their first win of the season as they are 0-7. They made moves in the Offseason and traded Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff. Goff has been struggling with the Lions as he has eight touchdowns on the year and six interceptions. This is a very winnable game for Philadelphia and they need to take advantage of this opportunity to face one of the worse teams in the NFL. This article will preview the Philadelphia Eagles vs the Detroit Lions.
Eagles will be without Miles Sanders
Sanders is listed as out for this game against Detroit. This means Kenneth Gainwell will most likely get the start for the Eagles this coming Sunday. Boston Scott will also get more playing time, as he did last week against the Raiders. It will be interesting to see how much Philadelphia sticks with the running game this week with Sanders out of action. Gainwell has already turned heads this season with his ability to be a great receiving running back. He is quick and elusive and can gain a good amount of yardage in the short passing game. Gainwell has also looked good running the ball as well. As a backup to Sanders, he has 26 attempts for 120 yards and two touchdowns. In terms of receiving he has racked up 164 yards and one touchdown. This is Gainwell’s opportunity to show what he’s got against the Lions this Sunday.
Jalen Hurts has an opportunity to shine
Detroit is in the bottom half of the league in passing yards allowed, as they rank 23rd and have allowed 263 yards a game. Hurts has not been the most accurate throwing the deep pass as of late. He has a paid for it a couple of times this year with interceptions.
But If there was a game to take some chances in, it would be this one against Detroit. Hurts has a lot of weapons within the receiving core as he has DeVonta Smith and Jalen Reagor. Quez Watkins has also caught some deep passes this year that has put the Eagles in situations to score. Hurts has the opportunity to have 300 yard passing day and maybe a couple touchdowns if he plays his cards right.
Players to look out for on the Lions
As said above Goff has not played the best football on this Lions squad. He has already turned the ball over a lot this year. His QBR this year ranks almost dead last in the league at 33.0. With this being said, this is not all of Goff’s fault. He does not have a lot of weapons around him to do anything with. Matthew Stafford is a great quarterback but did not win with the Lions because of the players around him and even management. Don’t count Goff out, he definitely has the ability to lead this Lions team to a win. Another player to look out for is Lions running back D’Andre Swift. He has looked impressive this year is probably one of the better players on this Lions offense. He has 262 yards receiving and two touchdowns. It will be interesting to see how both of these players do come game day.
Prediction
The Eagles have everything to lose in this game. They are definitely the better team in this matchup. As long as the defense can stand tall and hold the Lions to a limited number of points. It will be up to the Eagles’ offense to produce some points, which they are definitely capable of when they’re on the right page. It is predicted that the Eagles will win this game by ten points and notch a much-needed win on their record.
Predicted Score: Eagles 24- Lions 14
This concludes this Week 8 game preview on the Philadelphia Eagles vs the Detroit Lions.
