The Philadelphia Eagles signed Kyzir White at the end of March to a one-year dear. White played with the Charger for four years before signing with the Eagles. He gave the Chargers plenty of production in his time there and should bring good things to this Philadelphia Eagles team. Let’s look at Kyzir White more depth in this edition of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Player Spotlight.
Kyzir White at WVU
White started his journey to the NFL as a safety at the University of West Virginia. He played two years as a Mountaineer from 2016 to 2017. In 2016 he had 58 total tackles and three sacks. Furthermore, he was great at making tackles behind the line of scrimmage. White had seven tackles for a loss during his freshmen season.
His numbers improved the next season in 2017. Furthermore, he had 94 total tackles and one sack. His sack total was the only thing that was down during his final season, but he did improve in forcing turnovers. In particular, White improved on interceptions. He had none in 2016 with but WVU but had three in 2017. He also had two forced fumbles and one recovery. As one can see White can mostly do it all whether if it’s getting extra possession for his team on defense or making tackles and stopping the run.
Kyzir White in the NFL
White began his career in the NFL in 2018. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in fourth round with the 119th pick. Once with the Chargers, he changed positions from safety to linebacker. This switch ended up being a good move for Los Angeles. If one looks at his stats though his four years with the Chargers, White has improved every single season.
During his rookie year, White did not get much playing time. He only played and started in three games. He only had 17 total tackles, one interception and three pass deflections. In 2019 he improved his tackle total to 40 and had one interception in seven starts. White only got better in 2020 as he had 77 total tackles, four tackles for a loss and three QB hits. As you can see White is slowly improving at applying pressure to NFL offenses like he did at West Virginia.
His most recent season in 2021 showed the biggest improvements as he is becoming one of the better linebackers in the league. He racked up 144 tackles this past year along with two interceptions and seven tackles for a loss. White also had four QB hits this past year. This is all good news for the Eagles as he will more than likely be just as good next year or even better in 2022.
What he brings to the Eagles defense
White brings a lot to this Eagles defense. He has a lot of speed and can fly to either side of the field to make tackles. Not to mention, White has great awareness as he knows where the ball is most of the time. White is also great great coverage and has the ability to defend passes successfully . He also has great hands for a linebacker which allows him to get some interceptions. He also has a history of forcing fumbles and recovering some of them. The signing of White filled a hole at weak side linebacker where Alex Singleton would have started. Once Singleton left, Davion Taylor and former LSU star JaCoby Stevens were the only two on the depth chart. Safe to say White was a great signing for the Eagles. This concludes this spotlight on Philadelphia Eagles player Kyzir White
