Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has suffered an injury that is reported to be a Grade 2 separated shoulder. He will not be available to play in Week 8, and could miss more games. However, it is being reported that the Colts plan to start Sam Ehlinger for the remainder of the season, regardless of the Ryan’s health.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
2022 is Ryan’s 15th NFL season, and his first with the Indianapolis Colts. In his career, he has won an NFL MVP, owns a First Team All-Pro selection and been a Pro Bowler four times. Ahead of the injury and benching, Ryan had played in and started all seven games this season.
So far in 2022, Ryan has a 68.4 percent completion rate, has thrown for 2,008 yards, nine touchdowns and a league-leading nine interceptions. He has also been sacked 24 times, which is also a league-leading statistic. Ehlinger, who has played in three games and started none, will replace him.
