Four of the Cleveland Browns wide receivers, including starter Jarvis Landry, ruled out for the New York Jets game, due to COVID-19.
The Browns ruled out four wide receivers for their game against the Jets, leaving Baker Mayfield with limited options. The wide receivers not playing are Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, Donovan People-Jones, and Khadarel Hodge. People-Jones and Hodge are only back up receivers.
Their flight to New Jersey was delayed four hours, for contact tracing. The contact tracing team discovered that linebacker Jacob Phillips had also tested positive. The Browns later placed Phillips on the COVID reserves list.
In the wake of the news Saturday, December 26, Landry took Twitter to express his feelings on the matter, with only tweeting the word “ANNOYED” as a response.
The Jets game marks the first time in Landrys seven-year career, that he will miss a game.
Who Do The Cleveland Browns have Left.
Although COVID-19 has put the Browns offense at a significant disadvantage against the Jests, they still have options left for play.
For wide receivers, the only active one on the team is Marvin Hall. The lack of receivers forced the Browns to bring up practice squad receivers Derrick Willies and rookie Ja’Marcus Bradley to play the Jets. Both Hall or the two practice squad receivers have recorded reception this season for Cleveland.
However, the offense is not completely crippled. Off the COVID-19 reserves list and returning to play is left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. Wills Jr,. previously tested positive earlier in the season, returns to act as the blindside defense for Mayfield.
Despite the loss of receivers, the Browns, the Jets have only one win this entire season. Losing 13 games of the regular season. The Browns have won 10 games and four losses.
The game is today, December 27, at 1:00 pm.
