The Cleveland Browns have named quarterback Case Keenum the starter for Thursday Night Football against the Broncos. Baker Mayfield suffered a non-throwing shoulder injury in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was his second shoulder injury of the season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
Browns announce QB Case Keenum will start versus Broncos.

Mayfield had started every game for the Browns since he was drafted first overall in 2018. His streak will end at 51 consecutive starts. This is especially important if he misses significant time, since Mayfield has not been given a new contract. His fifth-year team option was picked up by the Browns for the 2021 season.
Keenum, who will be starting in Mayfield’s absence is in the midst of his 10th NFL season. Since joining the Texans as an undrafted rookie in 2012, he has been on rosters for eight different teams, including the Browns. His most notable season was as a starter for the Minnesota Vikings in which he led the team to a 13-3 record. That season featured the “Minnesota Miracle” playoff game against the Saints, but ended against the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles.
This will be Keenum’s first start as a Cleveland Brown.
