The Minnesota Vikings have signed cornerback Byron Murphy to a huge new deal, despite him playing only nine games this season. Murphy’s new contract is worth about $22 million over the next two NFL seasons.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
Since being chosen by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Murphy has racked up five picks, three sacks and two touchdowns. In college at the University of Washington, he made the First Team All-Pac 12 in 2018.
In those nine games in 2022, Murphy had four pass defenses, half of a sack, two fumble recoveries and just 36 combined tackles, with no other stats of note. In 16 games in 2021, he had four picks, a touchdown and 64 total tackles.
