Rice had a solid college career, but really had a good 2022 season. Now he is a prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As a three-star prospect out of Texas, Rice signed with SMU in the class of 2019. He immediately saw the field, tallying 25 receptions for 403 yards and one touchdown. Rice helped the Mustangs go 10-3 that season. In 2020, Rice had 48 receptions for 683 yards and five touchdowns. SMU 7-3 in a COVID-shortened season. For the 2021 season, Rice registered 64 catches for 670 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the Mustangs to an 8-4 record. Last season Rice had 96 receptions for 1,355 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Mustangs finished the year with a 7-5 record.
After opting out of the bowl game, Rice declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
Rashee Rice Strengths
Rice has solid size for the receiver position. He stands 6-foot and 204 pounds, which will give him the ability to play outside. His size gives him solid play strength. For his size, Rice has solid 32 3/4-inch arms to give him a decent catch radius.
He is able to be a solid deep threat for an offense. Rice is a solid athlete, but can get behind a defense. When the ball is in the air, he shows great ball tracking. He can run under the ball and attack the catch point very well. He is able to win jup balls.
Quarterback-friendly is a good way to describe Rice. He wins 50-50 balls if a quarterback throws one up to him. When plays break down he is able to find open space to get open. He also comes back to the football to prevent defensive backs from jumping the route and making a play on the ball.
Rashee Rice Weaknesses
Rice is a solid athlete and has the potential to be a good route-runner, but he needs to show more detail. He has to get in and out of his breaks quicker. Rice also needs to stop rounding off routes and make sure he is committed to each route he is running.
Although he has solid play strength, Rice has trouble beating press coverage. He needs to work on using his play strength more to battle better and free himself. Rice can also work on his releases to beat press coverage at the next level.
He has some drops on his tape that he needs to clean up. While he can make contested catches and throws that are off his frame, Rice sometimes struggles to make the easy ones. He can show better focus to convert on these at the next level.
Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
