The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Kayshon Boutte 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Kayshon Boutte Background
Position: Wide Receiver
School: LSU
Size: 6-foot, 195 Pounds
Class: Junior
2022 stats: 48 receptions, 538 receiving yards, 11.2 yards per catch, 2 touchdowns
Boutte spent three seasons at LSU, but did not show great improvement over his time there. Nevertheless, he has entered the 2023 NFL Draft.
Out of high school, Boutte was a five-star recruit, who stayed in-state to play for the Tigers. As a freshman, Boutte had 45 catches for 735 yards and five touchdowns. The Tigers went 5-5 that season. In his sophomore season, Boutte registered 38 receptions for 509 yards and nine touchdowns, while playing in just six games before injuring his ankle and missing the rest of the season. LSU struggled with a 6-7 record. He played in 11 games during his junior season, hauling in 48 passes for 538 yards and two touchdowns. LSU improved, winning 10 games and making the SEC Championship during the season.
Following the season, Boutte was originally set on returning to LSU, but then changed course and declared for the draft. He is a projected day-two pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Kayshon Boutte Strengths
Boutte has great athleticism, which is probably his greatest strength. He can explode off the line of scrimmage and is able to win his one-on-one matchups athletically. Boutte accelerates well, has good top-end speed and can change direction well. He is also able to out-jump defenders on 50-50 balls.
He uses his athleticism well to run routes and create separation. Boutte has decent releases at the line of scrimmage. Once he needs to make a break in his route, he gets in and out of his cuts quickly, giving an open target for the quarterback. While he wasn’t asked to run a ton of different routes, he was good at running the ones he was asked to run.
His ability to create big plays is there. Once the ball is in his hands, he uses his athleticism and vision to maximize what can be gained in the play. He eludes defenders well and can take short routes all the way to the end zone. Boutte is also a threat to go deep as well, as he speeds past defenders and shows good ball-tracking skills.
Kayshon Boutte Weaknesses
Boutte had plenty of drops on tape over the course of his career. The alarming thing is that many of them were focus drops, so he needs to lock in at the next level. Some of his drops were on balls out of frame. The drops are disappointing given his athleticism and ball-tracking skills.
Although the quarterback play improved during his time at LSU, Boutte’s production decreased every year. Some of this may be him moving from the slot to the outside, but he will have some questions to answer as to why his production dipped so much during his career.
Injuries and off-the-field issues will likely affect Boutte’s stock. He missed time in the 2021 season with an ankle injury and had surgeries to get ready for 2022. There are also some off-the-field issues that Boutte will have to answer for, as he was originally set to return to LSU for another season, but was then rumored to be ushered out.
