The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Jahan Dotson 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Jahan Dotson Background
Position:Â Wide Receiver
Size:Â 5-foot-11, 184 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2021 stats:Â 91 receptions, 1,182 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns, 13.0 yards per reception
Dotson made some crazy catches over his career at Penn State. After filling out a highlight-reel, he has declared for the NFL Draft.
He went to Penn State as a Pennsylvania product who was a four-star recruit. His playing time was limited as a freshman, but he still registered 13 catches for 203 yards. Dotson took on a bigger role as a sophomore and tallied 27 catches for 488 yards and five touchdowns. During that season, the Nittany Lions went 11-2 and won the Cotton Bowl. His improvement continued into his junior season, when Dotson posted 52 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns. Penn State had a tough COVID-shortened season, finishing 4-5. Dotson decided to return for his senior season and had 91 catches for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Nittany Lions bounced back in 2021 with help from Dotson, winning seven games.
Following a great career, Dotson is headed to the NFL. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Jahan Dotson Strengths
Dotson has great athleticism for a wide receiver. He has great body control, quickness and speed. He possesses acceleration from the start of the play, which really helps him have an advantage on defenders. Dotson can get to top speed quickly and shows his athleticism with his body control through his cuts and how he catches the ball.
He is a good route-runner and it all starts at the snaps. Dotson is quick at the snap of the ball and has good releases to get past defenders. He also gets in and out of his breaks quickly and is a good route salesman. On top of this, he changes his speeds well to throw off defenders. His ability to find the soft spot against zone coverage is apparent as well.
His speed, athleticism and route-running all help him to be a big play threat. He is able to beat defenders deep with all three things coming in handy. Dotson shows good ball tracking and can catch the deep ball. He also has shown elusiveness in the open field to turn a small catch into a big gain.
Jahan Dotson Weaknesses
Dotson isn’t the biggest receiver in the class at 5-foot-11 and 184 pounds. He needs to add strength to his frame to be a more well-rounded receiver. It would help him in contested catch situations, to beat press coverage and with his run blocking.
While Dotson lines up outside and in the slot, he has shown some hesitation to go over the middle. He isn’t the greatest at making contested catches, so going over the middle doesn’t necessarily fit his skillset. Dotson is best used outside the hashes and over the deep areas of the field.
He is good at running after the catch, but usually the first defender who lays a hand on him can bring him to the ground. Dotson is hard to catch, but easy to tackle once he is caught. He could improve in this area with added strength.
Projected Draft Range:Â First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
