Harrison was coveted by many colleges, but went to Oklahoma and was able to get plenty of experience. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.
He was a four-star prospect who left the east coast to play for the Sooners. Harrison played nine games as left tackle for Oklahoma in 2020. He was the full-time starter in 2021, missing just one game. His play helped Oklahoma go 11-2 and win the Alamo Bowl. Harrison was a stalwart at left tackle in 2022, as he was named First Team All-Big 12 for his play. The Sooners went 6-7 with Harrison opting out of the bowl game.
Following his opt-out, Harrison declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.
Anton Harrison Strengths
Harrison has a nice frame to work with for the next level. He was listed at 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, which is a good starting point for an NFL career. What makes his frame great is his arm length. He has long arms for his size, which helps him to keep pass rushers from disengaging and also helps him on reach blocks.
His athleticism is great for the position. Harrison gets out of his stance quickly and moves well throughout the play. He can move laterally well, which helps him pass block pretty well. Harrison is great in space and can get to the second level because of his ability to move. He also has good flexibility, which could help him deal with some of the better edge rushers in the NFL.
At this point in time, Harrison is a better pass blocker than he is a run blocker. He shows the ability to mirror pass rushers well because when moves well. Harrison does especially well against fast and bendy edge rushers, as he has the athleticism to match them. His potential to improve in this area makes him a valuable draft prospect.
Anton Harrison Weaknesses
Harrison needs to add play strength to his game to be more complete. It will help him with his run blocking, but also to have a better anchor as a pass protector. He has struggled against powers rushers throughout his college careeer. His movement skills are nice, but it will be hard for Harrison to be successful without more strength.
As mentioned, Harrison is not a great run blocker currently. While he can be used to pull and get to the second level, he has trouble with his initial blocks. Adding strength will help, but he needs to also be more committed to keeping his pad level low and driving a defender backward. He could be a liability as a run blocker early in his career.
There is plenty of work to be done on Harrison’s technique. He can get his feet crossed and he could have more consistent and further kickslides. His hands also could use some work, as he can be late to use his hands and also sometimes places them too wide. On top of those two things, Harrison needs to work on having a lower pad level.
