The Brooklyn Nets have had a tough run as a team. From being on the wrong end of one of the worst trades in NBA history, never winning an NBA championship, and consistently being an under .500 team, to now, where they can contend for a championship.
This offseason the Nets have added Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and DeAndre Jordan to their roster. On top of trading away D’Angelo Russell, who many thought would be their future.
So, what can fans expect from this team in the years to come?
Simply put, the Nets should expect a lot of success.
First Look
On paper, this team should be great. The Nets succeeded in adding in several incredible players while also keeping solid young players, such as Caris LeVert.
While Irving has had a lot of drama in his career, this could be a good move for him. It’s obvious that he feels like Brooklyn is the place for him. His time in Boston did not seem to be mutually beneficial. Now, he is able to play alongside other stars in a new environment. Irving is also going to be playing alongside two other stars which seemed to be something he missed when he and LeBron James separated.
DeAndre Jordan was also a very smart pick up by the Nets. Jordan is getting into the later stages of his career. But, he is still a rebounding machine and deadly close to the rim. He is the perfect veteran player the Nets need to help develop their exciting young Center, Jarrett Allen. On both sides of the ball, these Centers are, at worst, above average. Teaming them up together could prove to be some incredible foresight as Allen’s career continues.
There really does not need to be anything said about why adding Durant is a smart move. Despite Durant being gone for this next season, he instantly propels this team to championship contention. In the same vein as Jordan, he also is a veteran that could help develop the younger talent. Players like Caris LeVert, Rodions Kurucs, and Taurean Prince all have a lot to gain and learn with Durant as a leader on the team.
The Nets should expect that adding these three key pieces propel them past their years of mediocrity to finally reaching an NBA championship.
Predictions: The Nets should expect…
The Nets should expect that they are at least a top-three seed. Barring any injuries or unforeseen circumstances, they should be a top-three seed for years to come.
They should also expect to make the Eastern Conference Finals, if not the Championship. In the years to come fans should not be surprised to see the Larry O’Brien trophy in the hands of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant again.
The Nets should expect to finally be out of the basement for the next several years. This team has been on the come up as of recently. It may finally be the time that the Nets are a team that other teams are afraid to play.
