The New Orleans Pelicans have hired former Heat, Magic and Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy to their vacant head coaching position. After firing Alvin Gentry due to the Pelicans missing the playoffs even though they were invited into the NBA’s restart bubble, Van Gundy will take over after a two-year gap in his coaching resume.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
Sources: Stan Van Gundy agreed to a four-year deal to be the new Pelicans head coach.

According to Charania, Van Gundy will be given four years on the current deal. He has been to the NBA Finals once, with the Orlando Magic and coached players such as Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard, among others.
The Pelicans’ young roster fits Van Gundy’s coaching style of athleticism and defense. Now, the NBA will see whether or not New Orleans can make due with the wealth of players they received in the Anthony Davis trade.
