As LeBron James heads into his 20th NBA season, he has no plans of slowing down. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, James claimed that if his body and mind are in the right place, then he wants to play with both sons in the NBA.
James has been very vocal in the past about playing his last NBA season with oldest son LeBron “Bronny” James Jr. After a dominant season last year, he has now sent his sights on playing with both sons.
No Signs of Slowing Down
Last season the eldest James averaged 30 points per game and 37 minutes played. It would be no surprise to see him continue to play at such a high level until Bronny is eligible for the NBA. The 17-year-old Bronny is now a senior in high school. And after one year in college or playing semi-professionally he would be draft eligible.
If James wants to play with both sons, the real question is if he can maintain a high level of play until 15-year-old Bryce is ready. Bryce is currently a sophomore in high school. It would be at least four years before Bryce becomes eligible for the NBA.
If James is able to play that long, he will surpass Vince Carter for the longest NBA career. Carter played 22 seasons in the NBA.
Contract Extension
Earlier this summer, James signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. It is estimated to be worth $97.1 million dollars. This extension keeps him under contract with the Lakers until the end of the 2024-25 season. Once this deal is up, he will be able to sign with any team he wants. Most likely it would be with whatever team he hopes will draft Bronny.
If LeBron is able to play with either of his sons in the NBA, this would make them the first father-and-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time. If both brothers are able to play in the league at the same time, they would join a list that includes household names like the Currys, Antetokounmpos and the Balls.
James wanting to play with both sons in the NBA will make his already acclaimed career even better. At 37, James has won four NBA championships, four regular season and NBA Finals MVP awards and is a two-time olympic gold medalist.
