Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball has suffered a season-ending injury. Ball fractured his right ankle in a game on Monday night, which continues a trend of ankle injuries for the 21-year-old, albeit the first right ankle issue.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday
Ball did not attend college, but was still taken third overall by the Hornets out of SPIRE Academy in Ohio, along with some overseas teams. He is the little brother of former second-overall pick, Lonzo Ball and G-Leaguer LiAngelo Ball.
In 2021, he was awarded Rookie of the Year and made the All-Rookie First Team. He also made his first NBA All-Star Team in 2022. Before his season-ending injury, he scored 23.3 points, grabbed 6.4 rebounds and dished out 1.3 assists per game.
