Point guard John Wall and the Houston Rockets have mutually agreed to seek a trade for the former All-Star. The news comes after the Rockets selected shooting guard Jalen Green with the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and appear to be committed to a backcourt of Kevin Porter Jr. and Green going forward. According to ESPN, it has apparently been decided that while Wall will attend and participate in training camp, he will not play for the team until a trade partner is found.Â
Sources: John Wall, Houston Rockets meet and mutually agree to work together on finding a new home for the five-time All-Star guard. Plan is for Wall to be present at training camp, but not play in Rockets games this season.

Wall is a five-time All-Star as well as a former member of the All-NBA third team and All-Defensive second team who was sent to Houston as part of the trade that brought former NBA MVP, Russell Westbrook, to the Washington Wizards last season.
Unfortunately for the Rockets, Wall is owed $91.7 million over the next two seasons and has not looked like the dominant and athletic force that he was prior to his 2018 Achilles injury. He is also 31 years old and coming off one of the least efficient seasons of his career. It may be difficult to find a team willing and able to take on Wall’s massive contract
Houston looks forward to finding a new home for Wall, but also towards the mentorship and leadership he will provide their young guards up until his departure. Green and Porter Jr. are both athletic guards and will immensely benefit from the former No. 1 pick’s temporary tutelage.Â
This is a classy move by the Rockets who have been graceful in the face of trade requests from veterans as they enter a rebuilding stage over the next few seasons. Last season, they traded PJ Tucker at his behest and appear prepared to do the same for Wall.
