The 2022 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Jaden Ivey 2022 NBA Draft Profile.
Jaden Ivey Background
Position:Â Guard
Size:Â 6-foot-4, 200 pounds
Class:Â Sophomore
School:Â Purdue
2021-22 stats:Â 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.6 blocks, 46% FG%, 35.8% 3FG%, 74.4% FT%
Ivey had two great seasons at Purdue showing great improvement from year to year. Following his sophomore season, Ivey declared for the 2022 NBA Draft.
As a four-star prospect considering many of the teams in the region, Ivey decided to attend Purdue. As a freshman, Ivey averaged 11.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. The Boilermakers made the NCAA Tournament last season, but were knocked out in the first round. He improved as a sophomore, averaging 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Ivey led Purdue to the NCAA Tournament and the team made the Sweet Sixteen.
Ivey entered into the draft after the Boilermakers were bounced from the 2022 NCAA Tournament. He is now projected to be a top-five pick.
Jaden Ivey Strengths
Ivey has great athleticism for a draft prospect. He has the footspeed to blow right by the man defending him. On several occasions, he can be seen soaring through the air for impressive dunks. He also can block the shots of other guards with his leaping ability.
His versatility on offense is great as well. He has the ability to play on or off the ball, as a generator of the offense or as the one scoring. Ivey shoots well enough that he can run off screens and be good in catch-and-shoot situations. He creates well for his teammates and can run the offense.
He can develop into a three-level scorer at the next level. Ivey improved his 3-point shooting from 25.8 percent as a freshman to shooting 35.8 percent as a sophomore. He’ll need to work on his mid-range game, but his shooting touch should allow him to improve in that area. Ivey can beat his man off the dribble and finishes well at the basket.
Jaden Ivey Weaknesses
If there is one thing that Ivey can improve it is his tendency to play out of control. He is so fast and explosive that he can be susceptible to charges. Ivey also has too many turnovers at 2.6 per game. If he can slow down a little bit, change his speeds and play under control, he will be a more efficient player.
Ivey is a solid perimeter defender, but doesn’t make many plays on the ball. He averages fewer than one block and one steal per game. His ability to stay in front is exciting, but he can turn his defensive game into something that can generate offense at the next level with more work.
If he wants to be a full-time point guard, Ivey can improve his dribble moves. He is an ok ball-handler, but relies too much on his athleticism to get by his man. Working on his dribble moves, he can break down defenses even better and open up the offense more.
Projected Draft Range:Â Top-Five Pick
