Toronto has acquired another former All-Star to play alongside Kyle Lowry and Kawhi Leonard. The Memphis Grizzlies will send center Marc Gasol to the Raptors. Reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Grizzlies will receive Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Miles and a 2024 second round pick in return.
The Grizzlies put Gasol, along with point guard Mike Conley, on the trading block last month. The team is looking to rebuild around younger talent, and getting the most value for these players is part of the process. Gasol, a three-time All-Star, has career averages of 15 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Acquiring Gasol makes Toronto even more of a threat to win the Eastern Conference. Gasol is not only a good post scorer, but defender as well. Gasol won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2013.
Memphis will get a good player in Valanciunas, averaging similar numbers to Gasol. Miles and Wright were decent rotation pieces for the Raptors this season.
