The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a rough season so far. They have the worst record of not only the Eastern Conference, but of the entire league. A few of their players have had decent seasons such as Collin Sexton or Jordan Clarkson, but the Cavs’ season has been underwhelming, but it was also expected.
The Cavaliers are a young, rebuilding team but they also have a few veterans. The Cavs have Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and others such as Matthew Dellavedova. The oldest player on the roster is Channing Frye.
With the Cavs in a rebuilding state, it seems like the Cavs would make moves for their future roster. They could acquire draft picks and other pieces beneficial to their core. One way to do this is trading their veteran players. They could mimic the Memphis Grizzlies, who are trying to trade their veterans, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol. The Cavaliers could trade veteran forward Kevin Love but have no interest in trading him.
According to reports, the Cavs intend to keep Kevin Love. They want to keep him in Cleveland and have him lead the young team. When asked about the possibility of remaining in Cleveland, he confirmed his desire to stay.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’ve said all along I’ve wanted to be here. I’ve said this too, it’s a business,” He said. “We saw that last year at the deadline. Think every trade deadline, draft, free agency, always brings something new. It’s always different.”
He also said that he would love to get through a whole season healthy. Love is currently rehabbing a toe injury in his left foot. He has not played since Oct. 24.
In the offseason, the Cavaliers signed Love to a four-year, $120 million contract extension. He made the decision after LeBron James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. Love stayed with the Cavs despite a potential rebuild.
Love joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 with the Minnesota Timberwolves trading Love in exchange for Anthony Bennett and Andrew Wiggins. He joined the Cavs and won a championship with them in 2016.
It is possible that the Cavs keep Love despite their rebuild. If the lottery-bound Cavs draft a player like Zion Williamson, Love could help guide the Cavs into their future. If this happens, the Cavs could potentially have a brighter future.
