Gallagher, 29, has a .240 career batting average with seven home runs and 39 RBIs. This season he has a .214 average in 18 games played.
The Padres have added many talented players to their roster before the deadline including Juan Soto and Josh Bell. Gallagher gives them depth at catcher and likely will only be used in a limited fashion.
Rooker was signed by the Padres before the season and has only played in two games with the team. The outfielder played for the Twins before this season and has a career batting average of .205 in 67 career games.
Kansas City has traded away players, including Whit Merrifield, and are preparing for next season where Rooker may have a role.
