Things are going very well for Team Liquid at the 2019 Mid Season Invitational tournament. To start, they swept Phong VÅ© Buffalo in a best-of-three series. They were able to carry that momentum into the first day of the group stage, where they picked up two more wins. One win was over PVB again, and the other was against the Flash Wolves of Taiwan. Now at 2-0, Team Liquid are set to face G2 Esports and Invictus Gaming of the LEC in their next two matches. Based on their performance so far, they should make each match-up highly competitive and entertaining.
Proven Competitors
It’s been clear that Team Liquid are on a different level than most other teams in North America, but they’re looking to prove so on a global level at MSI. With experienced members like Jeong ‘Impact’ Eon-yeong and Yiliang ‘Doublelift’ Peng at the helm, Team Liquid are in good hands.
TL recently won their 3rd straight LCS championship and are bringing the momentum with them to MSI. Sweeping PVB in round two of the play-in stage certainly gave them a confidence boost, and it showed on the first day of the group stage. In each of their first two wins, Team Liquid won by double digits in kills and completely controlled objectives. These are things that they’ve done all season long, keeping them at the top of the LCS.
Specifically, Team Liquid were able to destroy the Flash Wolves in an 11-1 rout. Not only did each member remain sound in their fundamentals, but their team play was extraordinary. These two qualities reign over almost everything else when TL hits the rift and it definitely proved effective. In fact, their only team death was during an intense skirmish where Jake ‘Xmithie’ Puchero happened to get too greedy. This resulted in a revenge kill for the enemy team, however Team Liquid dominated the fight in the end. Despite this mistake, their focus and talent made winning seem like a breeze.
Two Giants in the Path Ahead
As for everyone else at MSI, there have been a few other teams turning heads. Invictus Gaming has opened up the group stage with two wins, including a hard fought bloodbath against PVB. The other was over G2 Esports, the top European team looking to prove themselves after falling just short at Worlds last year. Both teams will be in Team Liquid’s path as they plan to conquer the rift.
Invictus and G2 are very talented and competitive teams, making the road ahead incredibly tough for Team Liquid. However, TL has proven themselves to be a force so far, and not to be counted out. Each individual from Team Liquid has the potential to carry the game and there will be a lot of pressure not to falter. Though it may seem like a fearsome task ahead, Doublelift has sharp words for their upcoming opponents.
our wrath will be swift

This type of confidence is expected from the best ADC in North America. He recently put up an LCS best K/D/A of 7.43 during the 2019 LCS Spring Split, and has plans to do the same against the world’s best. Doublelift knows that he’s capable of being a worldwide talent and his eyes are set on defeating all competition in front of him. The rest of MSI will surely be interesting as long as Team Liquid are in the conversation.
