Cloud9 has put on a show in the LCS Spring Split and they sit at 10-2 behind first place Team Liquid. This stellar performance can’t be limited to just a few traits or qualities, but C9’s communication and vision control have bested almost all of their opponents. The way they set up vision and group as a team make it hard for enemies to even contest objectives. Credit has to be given where it’s due and Cloud9 has surely earned their respect so far.
The Road to Glory
There aren’t a lot of bad things that can be said about this Cloud9 team. Their overall team play has been fantastic, their record is among the top of the LCS and the future looks brighter than ever.
Few teams have been able to stop this train and it’s because their carries simply refuse to lose. There’s not really another way of putting it either. Only Team Liquid and Counter Logic Gaming have beaten C9 and both of those losses came in the first two weeks of the split. Since then, Cloud9 has gone 8-0 without even thinking of looking back. Impressive victories over FlyQuest and TSM these past few weeks have emphasized the separation between the top two and the rest of the pack.
Carry Me Senpai
What makes Cloud9 so unstoppable is the power of their carries. Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer and Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi have been catalysts in their respective roles, making it a lot easier to build up leads and close out tough matches.
Nisqy has been incredible as of recent and his K/D/A of 8.43 only goes to prove it. His play on Zoe, Galio and Sylas seem to be even better than some of his peers, like Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. He’s racked up an insane K/D/A of 23.00 on Sylas which reigns over every other mid laner in North America. In addition to his overall skill, Nisqy has fought effectively in team fights and around objectives. Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen has had a fairly easy job in the jungle as a result.
Sneaky’s play in the bot lane has also catapulted Cloud9 into the position they’re in now. His K/D/A of 7.00 is one of the best in the LCS and his farm scores are just as respectable.
Sneaky seems most comfortable on Ezreal this split, totaling four wins to just one loss when played. However, his play on Sivir has been unmatchable with a K/D/A of 25.00. His kill participation is much higher than most other ADC’s in North America, so it’s safe to say that Sneaky is in some quality company with his play.
Dominating the Opposition
It’s obvious that things have been looking up for Cloud9 this split, but it’s no easy task to maintain this level of success. All around this team has effectively shut out their opponents from most objectives. With control wards scattered across the entire map, Cloud9 likes to play around their vision control to organize their plays.
Even if they aren’t able to control the vision game, they’ll find opportunities to bring them closer to victory. In their most recent victory over TSM, Cloud9 was at a 7,000 gold deficit for most of the game. It was very clear that TSM was prepared for whatever C9 had up their sleeve, but one slip up at the end of the game sealed it for C9. After nearly forty minutes of one-sided, back-and-forth action, Cloud9 picked off a few key members of TSM. Bjergsen was caught out initially, making the rest of TSM vulnerable to Sneaky’s massive amount of damage. Their front line of Galio and Aatrox helped protect the carries and ultimately Cloud9 was able to push down a few inhibitors and escape with a win.
This was a result of incredible patience and communication. TSM tried to force their way into the base with baron and elder dragon advantages, but Cloud9 capitalized on every mistake in the late game. This was a match for the ages and a milestone for C9 as they make a push for the playoffs.
Sights Set on First Place
Only three weeks remain in the 2019 Spring Split and Cloud9 will be looking to make a run for first place before the end of the regular season. Their upcoming match against Team Liquid this weekend will definitely be a focal point as they continue their win-streak. TL was able to secure a victory in their first meeting, but they’ll be facing a much more polished Cloud9 this time. A lot has changed for these teams over these long, thirty-seven days since they last played. C9 has established themselves as a force among peasants, much like Team Liquid have.
Other than Team Liquid, Cloud9 has a fairly easy schedule to finish out the split. Matches against FlyQuest and Optic Gaming will surely draw attention, but ultimately won’t be too difficult for this powerhouse of a team. If Cloud9 can steal a win away from Team Liquid this weekend, they have a good shot at winning the tiebreaker and taking first place. This would give them a much easier schedule in the playoffs to make their run at the split cup even closer. Don’t expect too many slip ups from Cloud9 in the coming weeks.
