After her debut into the Guilty Gear competitive scene, “UMISHO” wins her first Evo tournament at Evo 2022.
The Happy Chaos player who first began entering major tournaments earlier in 202 already made a name for herself.
Achieving first place placements at online tournaments such as DreamHack Beyond and Vortex II. But as well for her high placements at Combo breaker 2022 and Heat Wave 2022. This time at Evo 2022, UMISHO was able to secure her first major offline tournament victory.
What’s most impressive with UMISHO’s career thus far is how new she is to the competitive fighting game scene. In an interview with Fanbyte, UMISHO confirms she only began competing 12 months prior to Evo.
Fighting Games and Guilty Gear aren’t her introductions to esports, however. She was previously a competitive Overwatch player who has won several Overwatch Contenders a few years prior.
In a tweet discussing the discussion of the small prize money, the FGC receives UMISHO still believes the FGC is a better place for her.
UMISHO was able to impressively not lose a single set through the entire tournament. Which is an incredible feat for her first Evo. Even after taking out Molham “Slash” Qazili in the Semi-finals, he wasn’t able to reset the bracket against UMISHO in the Grand Finals.
Other players who were able to reach to 8 include Julian “Hotashi” Harris, and Matthew “TempestNYC” Tulloch, who has been consistently in the top 8 in past Guilty Gear Majors. 3
Another inclusion is William “Leffen” Hjelte, who is traditionally a Super Smash Bros. Melee player. A previous Evo Champion for Melee in 2018 Leffen has made a name for himself in Guilty Gear as one of the best in Europe.
Arc World Tour Finals 2022
With her victory at Evo 2022, she has also set her placement at the ARC World Tour 2022 Finals. The ARC World Tour is an invitational tournament that Arc System Works holds for winners of major tournaments. Evo 2022 was the first qualifying tournament on the World Tour.
The finals will be for both Guilty Gear -Strive- and DNF Duel, with only eight qualifying players each. The next qualifying tournament will be VSFighting X in Birmingham, England on Aug. 19.
It will be exciting to see who UMISHO will be facing in the future and in the Arc World Tour 2022 Finals.
