“Phantom Liberty” is the first and only planned story expansion to CD Projekt Red’s dystopian first-person shooter “Cyberpunk 2077.” Here is everything to know about “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.”
After the less-than-stellar initial launch back in 2020, “Cyberpunk 2077” has experienced a re-acceptance by players following strings of updates to fix the mechanical issues that plagued the game at launch. A successful anime series, “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” also played an undeniable role in boosting the popularity of the game two years after its release.
Enter A New Part Of Night City
Players will once again step into the worn shoes of mercenary V, under the glowing neon lights and dangerous streets of Night City. The DLC promises players an all-new “spy-thriller adventure” where cyber-enhanced V must rescue the president of the New United States of America (NUSA) from a brand new – and deadly – district of Night City: Dogtown. In exchange for V’s espionage services, a NUSA net runner named Songbird offers to cure them of the “bomb” counting down in their own head. Other new members of the cast include covert agent Solomon Reed, played by Idris Elba. Additionally, Keanu Reeves is returning to his role as rock star Johnny Silverhand.
“Phantom Liberty” promises to pack a punch with fresh features for players to enjoy, including new sets of skill trees and abilities, story quests and side gigs, styles of combat and the introduction of vehicular combat, cyberwear and perks to broaden V’s cybernetic capabilities along with the aforementioned completely new district of Night City to explore.
The Price Attached
This DLC comes with a price tag of $29.99 for those who already own the base game. For those who do not have a copy of “Cyberpunk 2077,” there will be a bundled, slightly discounted option for purchasing the game and its DLC together. Pre-ordering the “Phantom Liberty” DLC will also include access to a brand new vehicle in the game – the Quadra Sport R-7 “Vigilante.”
The ones who actually purchase the DLC aren’t going to get all the fun. Upon the launch of “Phantom Liberty,” the 2.0 update of “Cyberpunk 2077” will also become available for users, which will include some of the already noted new features such as skills and weapons.
So Much More To Come From This World
Despite the rocky beginnings of “Cyberpunk 2077,” CD Projekt Red has turned it around on the project with continued support since its release. Now, three years later, the game is receiving its first and most significant expansion. “Phantom Liberty” is the only “planned” DLC expansion for “Cyberpunk 2077.” Though, this is not the end for “Cyberpunk 2077” as in Oct. 2022, CD Projekt Red announced “Project Orion” – a codenamed sequel to the futuristic shooter. Practically nothing is known about this sequel, other than the fact it exists; nonetheless, it will be exciting to see what else is in store for the “Cyberpunk” universe.
“Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty” is scheduled for release on Sept. 26, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows.
