The Cincinnati Bengals have fired defensive coordinator Teryl Austin on Monday according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
Austin’s firing comes a day after the Bengals allowed 51 points to the New Orleans Saints at home. The loss dropped Cincinnati to 5-4 on the season. The defense became the first unit in the Super Bowl era to allow more than 500 yards in three straight games.
The Bengals are allowing 32 points per game, which ranks 31st in the NFL. They rank 30th against both the run and the pass this season.
Cincinnati has said that head coach Marvin Lewis will take over defensive coordinator duties for the time being.
