Just before her release in Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Type-Moon releases a new gameplay trailer for the new character Neco-Arc.
After the announcement earlier in Aug. Type-Moon, and French-Bread have released two trailers showcasing more gameplay for Neco-Arc. The character, originally appearing in Melty Blood Act Cadenza is a joke character with an abnormal moveset.
The two trailers focus on Neco-Arcs’ various moves in actual application vs Miyako Arima, one of the base characters in the roster.
The wackiness starts immediately in the trailer with Neco-Arcs’ ability to shoot lasers out of her eyes and use herself like a rocket. She will also become the game’s smallest character as she is much shorter than Miyako in the trailer who was previously the shortest character.
However, despite her small stature, her hitbox won’t be entirely accurate to her size. Miyako can be seen visibly hitting Neco-Arc with punches while standing. This isn’t much different from her previous rendition in other Melty Blood games.
While there is no description or specifications on her moveset in the trailer, there are some things that are noticeable.
Neco-Arc Moveset
Some of the references include summoning characters Saber, and Eco-Arc. While Saber, originally from the Fate franchise is a guest character in Melty Blood: Type Lumina. Eco-Arc on the other hand is a character from the Tsukihime visual novel games. She appears alongside Neco-Arc after the player achieves a bad ending in the game.
Beyond the references, Neco-Arc uses her cell phone to summon other Neco-Arcs and use her other moves. Ranging from other movies to pulling up a live-stream overlay and temporarily pausing the fight. The overlay appears and temporarily obstructs the HUD for all players. No Health Meter, Magic Circuit Meter, or Moon Gauge will be visible for the time the “stream” overlay is up. Meaning both players will have to be aware of their health and resources before it goes up. It does not seem to give her any benefits other than being very distracting.
For one, Neco-Arc will be a very distracting and tricky character to play against. She can summoning characters and other effects from different angles. The director Kamone Serizawa describes Neco-Arc as a “Very tricky character, has a lot of funny attacks, with more jokes and references than ever.”
Will Neco-Arc Be Viable?
Regardless, while looking distracting, Neco-Arc doesn’t seem like she’ll have a major advantage over the other characters. In Melty Blood Act Cadenza and future renditions of the game, Neco-Arc while a fun character wasn’t very viable. Hopefully, that won’t be the case and players will pick her up for entertaining competitive play.
Neco-Arc will be released on Aug. 19, alongside Mash Kyrielight from Fate/Grand Order. Mash as of Aug. 18 does not have an extensive gameplay trailer. The two characters will be released with a major patch that will be changing many properties of the game.
