Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 16. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Zack Moss, RB, Indianapolis Colts
Jonathan Taylor went down with a sprained ankle in the game against the Vikings in week 16. When he went out Moss got the majority of the workload for the Colts. He finished the game with 24 carries for 81 yards. He did register a catch or get a target.
Moving forward, it wouldn’t be surprising for Taylor to be shut down the rest of the season. That means Moss figures to get a ton of work throughout the next few weeks. He can be picked up and possibly even played depending on the matchup. Moss is rostered in less than a percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Gus Edwards, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Edwards is a player that has been on this list several times this season. First, it was because J.K. Dobbins was out injured. Then Edwards was injured and came back. Now, Dobbins is back, but Edwards is still getting work. He registered seven carries for 55 yards against the Browns in week 15.
While Dobbins is getting more work, Edwards is rosterable. The Ravens’ offense has proven to be able to support more than one running back over the last few seasons. Edwards maybe shouldn’t be started, but he at least deserves to be on a roster. He is rostered in 34.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers
The Panthers’ backfield is a hard one to figure out. They often go with the hot hand. D’Onta Foreman had a bad game against the Steelers. Hubbard did marginally better with 10 rushing yards and 57 receiving yards on seven total touches.
If the Panthers go with the hot-hand, or at least not-so-cold-hand, Hubbard would be the back moving forward. At the very least he has been handling the receiving work out of the backfield. Hubbard can be added and stashed unless he shows to get more work, or a manager is desperate. He is rostered in 25.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. James Cook, RB, Buffalo Bills
Over the last few weeks, Cook has been more involved in the offense. He has earned some work, along with Devin Singletary in the backfield. In week 15 against the Dolphins, Cook had five carries for 34 yards and two receptions for five yards and a touchdown.
Cook’s work has warranted him being picked up. With Josh Allen and Singletary taking some opportunities, it wouldn’t be advisable to start him in most leagues for the time being. Pick him up and stash if there is room on the roster. He is available in almost 53 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons continue to support two running backs in their backfield. Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson have both had big games this season. In week 15 against the Saints, Allgeier carried the ball 17 times for 139 yards and a touchdown. He also had one catch for -3 yards.
Allgeier has three straight games with at least 10 carries. He is getting work enough to be rostered, even if he is not a player who should start. Despite playing well this season, he is rostered in just 33.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
