Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are five players to add in fantasy football week 14. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Rashaad Penny, RB, Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are running the ball really well right now and have two running backs who are producing. In the last two games, Penny has 40 fantasy points. He scored 18 against the Eagles and 22 against the Vikings on Monday Night Football. Penny has seen increased touches in the last two weeks, with 14 carries and 15 carries respectively.
This week the Seahawks play the Rams, who rank middle of the pack against opposing running backs. Penny will still have to split carries with Chirs Carson, but both players are doing well at the moment. He is owned in just 37.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Alexander Mattison, RB, Minnesota Vikings
Dalvin Cook went down with an injury on Monday Night Football. There aren’t many reports of whether he will be able to play this week. In his absence, Alexander Mattison stepped up big time for the Vikings. He finished the game with 22 rushing yards and 51 receiving yards.
If Cook is unable to go, Mattison should be picked up and played in week 14. The Vikings are playing the Lions this week, who rank 30th against opposing running backs. Mattison is available in over 80 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Deebo Samuel, WR, San Francisco 49ers
Samuel is on a hot streak right now and it looks like it will be a theme for the 49ers the rest of the season. He has four-straight double-digit scoring performances. This past week, he had 12 points against the Ravens. Samuel had 41 receiving yards, 20 rushing yards and one touchdown.
He has a favorable matchup to keep up his scoring streak. Samuel and the 49ers will play the Saints this week, who rank 23rd against opposing wide receivers. The wide receiver is available in over 50 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Bo Scarbrough, RB, Detroit Lions
He was inserted into the lineup because of injuries and he has produced some solid performances. Scarbrough has 26 points over his three weeks on the Lions’ active roster. With 21 carries against the Bears, he rushed for 83 yards on Thanksgiving.
The Lions have a tough matchup this week against the Vikings’ defense, but he has a lot of opportunities. He should get most of the work out of the backfield for the rest of the season. Scarbrough is still owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Robby Anderson, WR, New York Jets
Another player on a hot streak right now is Robby Anderson. He has put up two straight double-digit performances against the Raiders and Bengals. Sam Darnold’s emergence has been huge for Anderson’s productivity. There is good reason to think Anderson can keep things up.
The Jets play the Dolphins this week, which means Anderson should produce. Miami ranks 30th against opposing wide receivers in fantasy this year, so Darnold and Anderson should find a connection. Anderson is available in over 50 percent of ESPN leagues.
