Envy Gaming is officially retiring its name as a long-time esports organization and staple to the Call of Duty community. After creating teams for games like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, Gears of War, Halo, League of Legends, and Valorant. It was established as one of the largest global esports organizations to date. Now Envy Gaming is behind an even bigger esports organization, OpTic Gaming.

But Why?
OpTic founder Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez and Envy Gaming founder Mike “Hastr0” Rufail announced on a podcast that the two brands would officially join forces under OpTio Gaming, discontinuing the Envy brand. According to Hastr0, it was time for Envy to put all of its resources into OpTic Gaming.
As time passed, it became clear that the split between OpTic and Envy would no longer make any sense for the company. The tear in resources and brand attention ultimately hurt the company more than it helped, according to Hastr0. These issues came to a head recently during the beginning of June.
What Happens Next?
With Envy stepping down, OpTic will take over the branding of Envy’s esports teams even it’s content creators. This also includes Hastr0 taking over as The Chief Gaming Officer of OpTic Gaming.
However, one team that will keep the Envy branding is their Overwatch team the Dallas Fuel. “We are engrained in the Overwatch community”, says Rufail. The Dallas Fuel will keep its branding and name but it will now be owned and operated by OpTic Gaming.
The Future Looks Bright
Although Envy sacrificed its branding, Rufail did not rule out the possibility of doing something with the Envy brand in the future. However, he believes that this is a step in the right direction to help the organization continue and eliminate any confusion from the media.
Now newly appointed Chief Gaming Officer, Rufail said, “We still own the brand and could still potentially do something in the future if we want to. But it just made so much more sense to me to put all of our resources into OpTic because that’s where we are really going to grow our business.”
Although Envy will no longer be a brand, there is a possibility of them returning in the future. But for now, Envy Gaming will bleed green under OpTic.
