Counter Logic Gaming are bringing something new to esports, announcing a virtual summer camp called Junior CLG. Originally meant to be an in-person camp at CLG’s Performance Center, unfortunately, COVID-19 is making that impossible at the moment. Instead, CLG is doing it virtually for kids ranging between the ages of 10-16. Here is the camp website: https://www.clg.gg/junior
Junior CLG begins August 3rd, 2020, and runs for three week. The event is free and campers do not have to attend all three weeks. Each week has its own sign-ups for the following:
Week 1 – Esports Careers Camp
- Curriculum will include getting to know esports, how to run a tournament, how to run a production, live streaming events, etc.
Week 2 – League of Legends Camp
- Curriculum will include a day in the life of a professional player, preparing for a game day, tactical playing skills, tournaments, health, etc.
Week 3 – Fortnite Camp
- Similar curriculum to League of Legends week, except catering to Fortnite.
Each week, includes a pre-camp “Parents Night,” where Stephanie “missharvey” Harvey and other people in CLG management will talk with parents about what their kids will learn, what the esports industry is all about and an open Q&A. The kids will have the opportunity to talk with CLG players, coaches and streamers about gaming performance. Front office executives, the marketing and digital team, health/wellness teams and outside guests will educate them on business.
According to CLG, “This camp is an amazing way to connect with kids’ interests in gaming and provide them with the opportunity to learn tips and tricks for the most popular games (League of Legends and Fortnite), how to be a healthy gamer, and more.”
Stephanie Harvey was hired as Director of Franchise Development in November 2019, with education one of the primary focuses. CLG is striving to be at the forefront for education within esports, by adapting a model from Junior Knicks and Junior Rangers, pro basketball and hockey organizations also owned by Madison Square Garden Company.
