Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology September 6.
CFP Four
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0)
Ohio State challenged themselves by scheduling Notre Dame in week 1. It was an ugly win, but getting a win over a top 5 win is the best thing anyone has on their resume through one week.
This week: vs. Arkansas State Redwolves (1-0)
2. Georgia Bulldogs (1-0)
The Bulldogs had the most impressive performance over a quality opponent. They demolished Oregon 49-3. Plenty of their players from last year’s team are now in the NFL, but as they showed in week 1, they reload.
This week: vs. Samford Bulldogs (FCS)
3. Florida Gators (1-0)
Florida started off the Billy Napier-era with a huge upset over no. 7 ranked Utah. Anthony Richardson looks like he can take this team to new heights and has the team off to a good start.
This week: vs. Kentucky Wildcats (1-0)
4. Arkansas Razorbacks (1-0)
Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks had a physical game against the Cincinnati Bearcats and came away with the victory. They have one of the tougher schedules in college football, but have passed their first test.
This week: vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (1-0)
First Four Out
5. Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0)
Alabama played a team that won 11 games last season in Utah State and had no problem whatsoever. They passed the eye test by a wide margin and are the favorites to win it all.
This week: at Texas Longhorns (1-0)
6. Pittsburgh Panthers (1-0)
The Backyard Brawl happened for the first time in a long time and it delivered. Pittsburgh was able to defeat West Virginia in an exciting fashion. The Panthers have a lot to prove this season after losing a lot of talent from last season, but they had a good win in week 1.
This week: vs. Tennessee Volunteers (1-0)
7. Houston Cougars (1-0)
In one of the more exciting games of the weekend, Houston defeated UTSA on the road. The game went to three overtimes, but the Cougars escaped with the win over a team that won double-digit games last season.
This week: at Texas Tech Red Raiders (1-0)
8. North Carolina Tar Heels (2-0)
This week: at Georgia State Panthers (0-1)
Not many teams would schedule Appalachian State on the road, but North Carolina did and came out with a win to put them at 2-0 for the season. The defense needs to improve or there will be some serious problems in the future, but the Mountaineers are a tough team most years and the Tar Heels deserve some credit for now.
First Four Out
9. Arizona Wildcats (1-0)
Arizona was not projected to be good this season, but they opened up the season with a big win over San Diego State, who won 12 games last season. They won 38-20 and look much better than last season.
This week: vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-0)
10. Oregon State Beavers (1-0)
Oregon State defeated Boise State in week 1 and did so convincingly. The 34-17 win sets them up for a solid season.
This week: at Fresno State Bulldogs (1-0)
11. Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0)
In week 1, Penn State opened up with a win on the road over Purdue. The Boilermakers won nine games and it was a decent first win for the Nittany Lions.
This week: vs. Ohio Bobcats (1-0)
12. Florida State Seminoles (2-0)
Beating Duquesne in week 0 won’t do much for the resume, but the Seminoles paired that with a win over LSU. The Tigers were in some media members’ top 25s, but look like they may struggle this season. It is still a decent win for the Seminoles who look like they could be going to a bowl this season.
This week: BYE
