Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology September 12.
CFP Four
1. Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0)
Alabama had no problems against Mercer, although Nick Saban is worried about his team being hyped up. The Crimson Tide’s week 1 victory over Miami is still intact after they narrowly defeated Appalachian State. With a big win under their belt and the eye test going heavily in their favor right now, Alabama is the best team in the country.
This week: at Florida Gators (2-0)
2. Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)
Starting quarterback JT Daniels sat out their game against UAB, but that didn’t seem to matter as Georgia won easily. Their win over Clemson is still very impressive and will keep them in the CFP top four until they lose.
This week: vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (2-0)
3. Oregon Ducks (2-0)
In a very surprising upset, Oregon defeated Ohio State on the road without five defensive starters. They struggled against Fresno State in week 1 and now have seemingly found their footing. With the Pac-12 being very winnable, Oregon could crash the CFP this year.
This week: vs. Stony Brook Seawolves (FCS 1-1)
4. Iowa Hawkeyes (2-0)
In the Battle for the Cy-Hawk trophy, Iowa played their game, which featured forcing turnovers and running the ball 39 times, and won 27-17. The Hawkeyes have a top 10 win and have a manageable schedule in the Big 10 this year. The Big 10 Championship Game is in their sights.
This week: vs. Kent State Golden Flashes (1-1)
First Four Out
5. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-0)
The Hokies followed up their win over North Carolina with a 35-14 win over Mississippi State. Beating the Tar Heels is still one of the most impressive wins of the season and sets Virginia Tech up well for a run in the ACC.
This week: at West Virginia Mountaineers (1-1)
6. Penn State Nittany Lions (2-0)
While they won’t receive much credit for the win, Penn State defeated a solid Ball State team 44-13 in week 2. They still have their win over Wisconsin bolstering their ranking and it looks like they are set for a much better season than last year, when they finished 4-5.
This week: vs. Auburn Tigers (2-0)
7. Arkansas Razorbacks (2-0)
Arkansas didn’t just beat Texas, they dominated the game from start to finish. The 40-21 win was the perfect way to welcome Texas to the SEC in a few years. This was a much different Arkansas team than the one who struggled against Rice in their opener.
This week: vs. Georgia Southern Eagles (1-1)
8. UCLA Bruins (2-0)
After playing in week 0, UCLA had their first bye of the season in week 2. They have looked like one of the best teams in the country so far in their wins over Hawaii and LSU. Chip Kelly looks like he can lift this team to a Pac-12 South title.
This week: vs. Fresno State Bulldogs (1-1)
Next Four Out
9. BYU Cougars (2-0)
The Cougars won a hard-fought game over their rivals Utah 26-17. It was a nice, ranked win after BYU defeated Arizona in week 1. While losing Zach Wilson was big, the Cougars have managed to get the season started off well.
This week: vs. Arizona State Sun Devils (2-0)
10. Oklahoma Sooners (2-0)
In week 1, Oklahoma looked sloppy, but were able to hold off a solid Tulane team. This week, they played Western Carolina and won easily 76-0. Oklahoma doesn’t have any huge games on their schedule, so it will take some time for them to move up these rankings.
This week: vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-1)
11. Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-0)
Mississippi State was able to get up early on NC State and then hold onto the lead to give them a nice win. The Bulldogs looked a lot better than they did in week 1, when their game came down to the wire against Louisiana Tech.
This week: at Memphis Tigers (2-0)
12. Ole Miss Rebels (2-0)
Week 2 presented no problems for Ole Miss, as they defeated Austin Peay 54-17. They still don’t have a really good win, as Louisville doesn’t look that solid, but they have looked good in their two games so far this season.
This week: vs. Tulane Green Wave (2-0)
