College football week 10 is in the books. After every week fans can take away things from what happened on the field. Here are five things learned from college football week 10.
1. Notre Dame Can Win the Big Game
Critics of Notre Dame will mention that they can’t win the big games over the last several years. Even without being to do so, they have made a National Championship and the College Football Playoff in Brian Kelly’s tenure as head coach. They were able to win a big game against Clemson this week.
The Tigers were down three defensive starters and Trevor Lawrence, but Clemson always has talent stockpiled on their roster as one of the top schools at recruiting every year. Notre Dame’s offense was able to put up points, with a lot of credit going to Ian Book and the offensive line, while their defense made a few key plays to help them win the game. This year at least, Notre Dame can win the big game.
2. BYU Can Beat Good Competition
In their toughest game of the season, BYU defeated Boise State on the road. It was an impressive performance, even if Boise State had some injuries at the quarterback position. Zach Wilson led the charge once again with 359 passing yards and two touchdowns.
The Cougars had been beating up on inferior competition all season long, so this win gives them more legitimacy. It will take some help for the Cougars to make the College Football Playoff, but they have played well. At the very least, they are in the running for a spot in a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.
3. Florida’s Offense is Great
Knowing that Florida’s offense was good is something that most fans understood coming into week 10. Florida stepped their game up even more and proved that their offense is great with their 44-28 win over Georgia. It wasn’t just that the offense performed in a big game, but that they did well against a usually good Georgia defense.
Kyle Trask had a big day with 474 passing yards and four touchdowns as he continues his great season. Malik Davis finished with five receptions for 100 yards. The offense still performed after Kyle Pitts had to leave the game. Florida’s offense could lead them to great things down the road this season.
4. Michigan isn’t Good
After defeating Minnesota in their opener, there was hope that Michigan could have a great season. Things haven’t panned out since that point. Their win over Minnesota looks a little worse after the Golden Gophers have started 1-2. The Wolverines lost to Michigan State last week. Michigan State followed that performance with a blowout loss to Iowa.
To make matters worse, Michigan lost to Indiana this week. The Hoosiers look like a solid team, but that still doesn’t mean it is a good sign for the Wolverines. They are 1-2 with five games left in the season. There is a real shot that Michigan goes .500 or below this season.
5. Liberty is a Threat
Liberty was 6-0 heading into the weekend. The Flames had already won a game over a Power 5 conference team in Syracuse. They headed into Blacksburg and took on Virginia Tech. Although it was close, Liberty won the game with a walk-off field goal.
The win will push them higher in the polls after they were ranked 25th this week. Malik Willis leads the team and makes them tough to beat. Willis has passed for 1,339 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception this season. With him making plays, Liberty could continue to surprise people. They still have games with NC State and Coastal Carolina still on the schedule.
