The NBA has been buzzing for the last two days. Anthony Davis has requested a trade from New Orleans, prompting the rumors and speculation to begin. Here is an update about where Davis could end up being traded.
Toronto and Milwaukee enter the field
While every team in the NBA would love to have Anthony Davis on their roster, not everyone has the assets. The consensus before was that the Lakers were on the clock to pull off a deal before the deadline, and that Boston will have to wait until the summer to make an offer.
Boston and L.A. are the top two contenders, with the New York Knicks a distant third. First reported by Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, two more teams have entered the race for A.D. The Raptors and the Bucks are both expected to make offers for Davis before the trade deadline.
Pairing Davis with Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo respectively would make an incredible duo for each team. Adding Davis to either of these teams would likely make them the favorite to win the Eastern Conference.
The question is what they are willing to give up for a superstar like Davis. Milwaukee could offer a package of Khris Middleton, Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brogdon and more, but would that be enough? It will be interesting to see who Toronto will offer, presumably any player that isn’t Leonard or Kyle Lowry.
While these teams are trying to make a deal happen before the deadline, New Orleans are in no rush. The Pelicans front office has stated that they will pursue a deal on their own terms.
L.A. bound?
While multiple teams are chasing Davis before he becomes a free agent, they may be in store for a rental situation. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has reported that multiple sources inside the league expect Davis’ agent Rich Paul to make it known his client wants to play for the Lakers.
This news should change the trade landscape for Davis, but nothing should be ruled out. The belief now is that Davis will be a Laker eventually, but could that change? Paul George decided to stay in Oklahoma City after he was traded, despite a desire to play in L.A. The Raptors felt confident enough about their franchise to gamble on acquiring Leonard. Could a team convince Davis to stay long-term? It is possible.
Only time will tell where Davis will end up, but the outlook for the Lakers is bright regardless. Davis may find himself in purple and gold eventually.
