Jonathan Schoop is on the move from the Orioles to the Brewers for Jonathan Villar, Luis Ortiz and Jean Carmona according to Ken Rosenthal.
The Brewers are in the middle of a push towards the playoffs and needed a legitimate second baseman. Travis Shaw was slotted to play the position before this deal was made.
Schoop hit .293 last season, but has struggled to a .244 average this season. He has 17 home runs and 40 RBIs this season. The Brewers are tied for 19th in the league with 4.38 runs per game. Schoop is expected to help out that average.
The Orioles have made plenty of deals to signify their rebuild. Zach Britton, Manny Machado, Kevin Gausman and Darren O’Day were also traded.
Villar is a solid player to get in return. The second baseman has a .261 average with six home runs and 22 RBIs this season. He is currently on the 10-day DL with a thumb injury.
Carmona is in the Rookie League with a .239 batting average. The 18-year-old has potential, but it may not be recognized for a while.
Ortiz is a 22-year-old, Double-A pitcher who has a 3.71 ERA this season.
With all of their moves before the deadline, the Orioles saved $35 million according to Jon Heyman.
