Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns
Louisiana won 10 games this season to make a bowl game. They defeated three bowl-eligible teams this season: Coastal Carolina, Texas State and Arkansas State. All three of their losses were to teams that made bowl games.
The Ragin’ Cajuns score 33.2 points per game, ranking 31st in the country. They pass for 260.5 yards (ranked 34th) and rush for 170.5 yards per game (ranked 55th).
Ben Wooldridge has started at quarterback for Louisiana. He has passed for 2,392 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions on 68.3 percent completion. Five players have at least 250 receiving yards this season for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Two of those are in the transfer portal, but Lance LeGendre is the leading receiver and playing in this game. He has 814 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Three running backs have done a lot of damage on the ground for Louisiana. Bill Davis leads the team with 775 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Zylan Perry has helped out with 646 rushing yards. Dre’lyn Washington was good this season as well, but he is in the transfer portal.
On defense, the Ragin’ Cajuns concede 23.4 points per game, ranking 54th in the country. They allow 189.4 passing yards and 157.6 rushing yards per game. K.C. Ossai has been all over the field with 110 tackles. Cameron Whitfield paces the team with six sacks. Keyon Martin has been good in the secondary with six passes defended and two interceptions.
TCU Horned Frogs
TCU won eight games to qualify for a bowl game this season. They defeated one bowl-eligible team this season: Texas Tech. Two of their losses were to teams that didn’t make a bowl game: UCF and Houston.
The Horned Frogs score 33.6 points per game, which ranks 30th in the FBS. They pass for 317.6 (ranked seventh) and rush for 114.3 yards per game (ranked 113th).
Josh Hoover has started at quarterback for the Horned Frogs. He has done well, passing for 3,697 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 66.7 percent completion. Four players have over 500 receiving yards for the Horned Frogs. Jack Bech and Savion Williams are two of those four and are opting out of this game. That will put more of an onus on JP Richardson and Eric McAlister who had 680 and 675 receiving yards respectively.
TCU has three players who rushed for at least 200 yards on the season. One of them was Williams, who found success running the ball from the wide receiver position. Cam Cook was the leading rusher with 460 yards and nine touchdowns. Jeremy Payne chipped in with 206 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
On defense, the Horned Frogs allow 26.4 points per game, ranking 80th in the country. They allow 192.7 passing yards and 164.3 rushing yards per game. Johnny Hodges has the team-high with 87 total tackles. Devean Deal leads the team with 4.5 sacks. LaMareon James has shown good ball skills with nine passes defended and one interception.
Prediction
TCU has some playmakers opting out for this game, which can limit their offense. They can still win the game, but a blowout isn’t likely in the cards. Louisiana should be able to score and keep it within single digits.
