The 2022 League of Legends World Championship format will have no changes. LoL Esports fans have been asking Riot Games to implement a double elimination bracket for more bo5, games and storylines at Worlds. Here is how it was solved that there would be no Double Elimination series at Worlds 2022.
Reddit user “CantComprehendLogic” recently posted a Reddit thread where he put together the dates and found out Worlds 2022 will last around the same amount of time as Worlds 2021 which didn’t have double elimination.
Last year’s Worlds lasted a little over one month and that was without double elimination and less breaks in between stages as the whole tournament was held in Iceland “Reykjavík”. Worlds 2022 will be lasting around the same amount of time. There was a bit more time added as there are longer breaks in between stages with Worlds will travel throughout the USA and to Mexico.
- Mexico City, Play-Ins: September 29 – October 4
- New York City, Group Stage: October 7 – October 16
- New York City, Quarterfinals: October 20 – October 23
- Atlanta, Georgia, Semifinals: October 29 – October 30
- San Francisco California, Finals: November 5
There are no major changes in the Worlds format and Worlds will be played out the same as last year. This means that there will still only be five, best-of-fives series over a one-month-long tournament. The group stage is almost identical in dates as Worlds 2021. if there were any bo5 changes in groups it would last a couple more days.
There is also going to be a huge wait between the bo5 as everything is put on the weekends again. This would not be possible if it was a double-elimination bracket. Over a 14-day period, only three bo5 will be played.
