Size:Â 6-foot-5, 247 pounds
Class:Â Redshirt Senior
2021 stats:Â 28 catches, 250 receiving yards, 8.9 yards per catch, 1 touchdown reception
Otton was a mismatch in college and had a nice career at Washington. Now he is one of the better tight ends in the 2022 NFL Draft.
He was a three-star prospect who chose to stay in his home state to play for the Huskies. Otton redshirted his first season on campus, then had 13 receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt freshman. His role increased in the offense in 2019, when he registered 32 catches for 344 yards and two touchdowns. He helped Washington go 8-5 that season. In 2020, Otton had 18 catches for 258 yards and three touchdowns in just four games. The Huskies went 3-1 that season. For 2021, Otton hauled in 28 passes for 250 yards and one touchdown. Washington struggled and finished the season with a 4-8 record.
After a solid college career, Otton has started prepping for the NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
Cade Otton Strengths
Otton is a good route runner for a tight end. He can run several routes on the route tree and does them well. His ability to get in and out of his breaks is unique for a player his size. He knows how to set up a defender and uses leverage. Otton should be able to separate at the next level.
His hands are also very good. Otton doesn’t wear gloves, but has no issues hanging on to the football. He can make the routine catches and contested ones. Otton can adjust to the ball in the air and make acrobatic catches as well.
He is a solid athlete for a tight end as well. Otton has solid play speed and body control. As mentioned, he is quick and agile enough to separate. His ability to win 50-50 balls is also there. His athleticism can make him a mismatch at the pro level.
Cade Otton Weaknesses
Otton needs to add some weight to his frame. He currently is 247 pounds and can afford to add about 10 pounds of muscle. This will help his blocking, but also his ability to play through contact when he is running routes.
Right now, Otton is a receiving threat, but not the best blocker. Adding weight will help him sustain blocks longer, but he also needs to put in more effort. With more effort, he could finish blocks better and become a decent blocker at the NFL level.
He does run hard, but Otton isn’t a threat to run after the catch. He is a reliable target to make the reception, but a lot of times gets tackled shortly after the catch. Quarterbacks will have to keep that in mind when targeting him.
Projected Draft Range:Â Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
