The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Devonte Wyatt 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Devonte Wyatt Background
Position:Â Defensive Line
Size:Â 6-foot-3, 315 pounds
Class:Â Redshirt Senior
2021 stats: 39 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 pass defended, 2 fumbles forced, 1 fumble recovery
Wyatt improved a lot in 2021, which paid off for both his draft stock and for the Georgia Bulldogs. He is riding that momentum into the NFL Draft.
Out of high school, Wyatt was a four-star recruit who went to JUCO before going to Georgia. He played sparingly for the Bulldogs in 2018 with 19 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. In 2019, he continued in a rotational role for most of the year. Wyatt produced 30 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and one tackle for loss. He stepped into the starting role in 2020, producing 25 total tackles and two tackles for loss. His play helped Georgia win the Peach Bowl. Wyatt really stepped it up in 2021, finishing the season with 39 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. With Wyatt playing well in 2021, Georgia was able to win the National Championship.
Following a great season for Wyatt and his team the NFL awaits. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Devonte Wyatt Strengths
Wyatt is a well-built interior defensive lineman. At 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, he won’t really need to work too much on adding mass. With his size comes good strength, which helps him hold up against bigger interior offensive linemen. He can overpower blockers at times when he is in a one-on-one matchup.
For his size, Wyatt is a solid athlete. He has shown a quick first step at the snap of the ball and has pretty solid speed after that. To go with his quickness, Wyatt shows good lateral mobility, which can help him attack gaps. He is decently flexible and will be more athletic than most of his matchups on the interior of the line.
His hands are powerful and can knock offensive linemen backward. He has solid timing and placement in his hands too. Wyatt has demonstrated a good amount of pass rush moves and counters. His hand fighting is more advanced than a lot of other interior defensive linemen in this class.
Devonte Wyatt Weaknesses
Even though he has good size, Wyatt doesn’t have the greatest length. Offensive linemen can control the matchup against him sometimes with their long arms. It puts more of an importance on his hand timing and placement for him to be successful.
While he is strong, Wyatt shouldn’t be asked to take on double teams with regularity. His best work is done when he is able to go one on one with a lineman. When a second comes to double team, he doesn’t hold up well. Adding strength could help, but he really needs to be in a 4-3 scheme so that double teams will happen less often.
Wyatt is an older prospect who only produced in a big way this past season. Because he is an interior defensive linemen, the quality of his play doesn’t always show up on the stat line. He’ll need to progress in some areas quickly to be effective as an older rookie.
Projected Draft Range:Â First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
