The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from Madden 21 of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with some of the initial rankings of players. Here are the Madden 21 questionable ratings: Cincinnati Bengals.
Joe Mixon- 89
The Bengals’ leading back has proven to be a reliable, dual threat player that teams have to game plan for every week, but an 89 overall rating is a bit generous. In 2018, Mixon had his best season as a pro, recording over 1100 yards, 43 catches and nine total touchdowns.
However, 2019 saw a dip in production along with the rest of the offense. Mixon had four games in 2019 rushing for less than 20 yards and scored a rushing touchdown in only four of the team’s games, with his first coming in week 10. While not all the fault goes to Mixon for his slight regression, there are still halfbacks ranked behind him that warrants a reduction in overall. Ranked an overall below is Alvin Kamara and Josh Jacobs, with Kamara being widely regarded as one of the most powerful and also among the best receiving backs in the entire NFL and Jacobs being the reigning rookie rushing leader and was the focal point of the Raiders’ offense.
Adjusted Rating- 87
Carlos Dunlap- 82
Carlos Dunlap is one of the most unique athletes at the defensive end position, as the six foot six inch, 270 pound linemen is much taller than most defensive linemen in the league, and has unique burst and speed at the position. While the Bengals’ defense as a whole struggled largely in 2019, Dunlap’s production has not dropped, recording another nine sacks and has not had under 7.5 sacks in a season since 2012. While not a household name, Dunlap is a model of consistency who has not been able to get his deserved recognition while playing in a smaller market.
Adjusted Rating- 85
Carl Lawson- 80
Another defensive end for Cincinnati, Carl Lawson is a player booming with potential, however has had very little production the last two seasons. After recording 8.5 sacks his rookie year, Lawson has only recorded six in 2018 and 2019 combined, a major regression from his rookie year. Lawson has sustained injuries the past two seasons, filled with promise being only 25 years old, however his lack of production is too much to ignore as he is not deserving of having an 80 overall rating.
Adjusted Rating – 78
