Joe DiTullioBy Joe DiTullioApril 5, 2020Updated:April 9, 20204 Mins Read

The 2020 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is Georgia’s D’Andre Swift 2020 NFL Draft profile.

Swift joined the long line of talented Georgia running backs and started making an impact immediately. The former highly-touted recruit was very effective and is now ready for the NFL.

As a freshman, Swift entered a crowded Georgia backfield with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. He still saw the field, finishing the season with 618 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. The Bulldogs made the National Championship Game that season, but lost to Alabama. In 2018, Swift rushed for 1,049 yards and 10 touchdowns. Georgia reached the Sugar Bowl following the season, but lost to Texas. This season, Swift had 1,218 rushing yards and eight total touchdowns. The team returned to the Sugar Bowl and beat Baylor.

He decided to forgo his senior season and enter the 2020 NFL Draft. Swift has the potential to be the first running back selected and could even go in the first round.

Strengths

D'Andre Swift 2020 NFL Draft Profile
D’Andre Swift

Swift has solid acceleration and agility. Once the run starts, he has decent patience, but once he needs to get moving he does quickly, displaying his great acceleration. When something gets in his way, he has the agility to make a quick cut to avoid contact and pick up extra yards. The quickness he brings to the table will help him take advantage of good blocking or make players miss if the blocking isn’t there.

His vision is also among the best in the class. He had plenty of big holes to run to behind Georgia’s offensive line, but he consistently found the right hole to run through. His vision isn’t limited to just what is at the line of scrimmage, but also his ability to read where linebackers and safeties are going to be.

He does a great job of catching the ball out of the backfield. Swift runs solid routes and can get open consistently. Once he gets open, he has solid hands and he is good at running after the catch. He can add to his route tree, but Swift is one of the best backs in the class out of the backfield.

Weaknesses

Swift has a nice build at 215 pounds, but he isn’t the most powerful back. He runs hard, but bigger defenders will be able to bring him down. This isn’t a huge weakness, as he does have some power and the NFL is going with more speed rather than power.

His pass protection could also be improved. He needs to learn to square up blitzers and take them on. If he wants to stay in the game on third downs, he’ll have to do more than just catch the ball well. Adding more to his pass protection will allow Swift to be a more complete back.

Durability will be a question with Swift for a few different reasons. He had a few small injuries in college, even though the work in the backfield was split between multiple running backs. Swift also runs with a high pad level and with no regard for himself. Teams will have to change the way he runs or risk having him burn out in a few seasons.
