Before free agency officially begins, TGH will be giving you our picks for the top free agents at every position in 2020. Keep in mind, these are our opinions for the top players and will not list every free agent. As of writing, all of the players listed are currently still un-signed.
Here we’ll look at the top offensive lineman available in 2020 free agency
Anthony Castonzo
Castonzo is a 31-year-old tackle that has played his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts. He came into the league in 2011, and has been one of the most durable lineman in the entire NFL.
In five of his nine seasons, Castonzo played every single offensive snap with the Colts. He came close to another during the 2016 season, as he was healthy for all 16 games but played 98 percent of the snaps.
Castonzo has played 8,210 snaps in his career, and has committed only 45 penalties. He truly is one of the very best at what he does, and can clearly stay pretty healthy.
Indianapolis will undoubtedly want to keep him a Colt, and may pay him whatever it takes. Regardless of his age, any team without a star left tackle would love to have his services. The Colts better pay up, because he could slip away if they low-ball him.
Bryan Bulaga
Similarly to Costanzo, Bryan Bulaga has played his entire career with the Green Bay Packers.
In 160 possible games since he came into the league, Bulaga has played in 115. The tackle has experienced a few injuries in his career, including a torn ACL in his left knee during the 2017 season. His last contract was for five years worth about $7 million per year.
Bulaga likely will not be looking to make that much, as he will be 31 at the beginning of the 2020 season. Especially considering his injury history, he will take the best deal he can get, unless he can stay with the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers’ championship window is wide open and having a tackle that is familiar with the system is truly invaluable to their Super Bowl aspirations. Their depth on the offensive line is not exceptional, but they could stand to lose him if he demands too much money.
A veteran lineman like Bulaga will be sought after by many teams, as long as the price is right. His options are wide open.
Brandon Scherff
Scherff is a three-time Pro Bowl guard for the Washington Redskins. He made the Pro Bowl in 2019 despite being on a Redskins team that earned the number two overall pick in the draft.
Since coming into the league in 2015, his offensive snap count went down every year until 2019. He played in every game in his first two seasons, before missing two games and eight games in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Regardless, his production was solid in every year besides 2018. The 2019 Pro Bowl season came after being ranked as the 31st right guard in the NFL by Pro Football Focus the previous year.
Being that Washington is in a transitional period, it is unclear what they will want to do with Scherff. They need a solid offensive line to protect new, raw quarterback Dwayne Haskins. They will probably add to their defensive line in the draft, by taking defensive end Chase Young.
His market is about the same as Bulaga’s. Although he is younger, his production is less consistent. But potential is the key here, and every team is always looking to make their offensive line more solid.
