Top 50 NBA players of the 2017-18 season: No. 18 Jimmy Butler

The league had some great moments this year. It was a great season with some of the best players in the world playing every night at a high level. It exceeded every expectation of this season.

Now that it is over, let’s take a look and recognize some of the season’s top performers. Specifically, the top 50 players of this past season. Let’s continue to No. 18: Jimmy Butler

No. 18: Jimmy Butler

About a year ago, Jimmy Butler got traded to the Timberwolves from the Bulls and it was a complete shock for some NBA fans. Around this time last year, Butler was overseas when he heard the news that he was traded, right after he said he was planning to stay in Chicago for the long-term, but business is business.

In his first season in Minnesota, he did a really good job in his role, playing with Towns, Wiggins and Crawford. They fought for that last spot in the playoffs, winning their last two games of the season, eliminating the Denver Nuggets out of playoff contention.

Even though they only won one game in the series against the Houston Rockets, the whole team did a pretty good job by playing against them. Whatever happens during next season, the hope is that any problem that they have within the organization can be fixed. For Butler, he’s looking to go somewhere else for next year or maybe before the season starts.

In the regular season, he had 22.2 points and 4.9 assists per game on 47.4% shooting. In the playoffs, he put up 15.8 points and 4.0 assists per game, while shooting 44.4%. Jimmy Butler did not get the ball so much during the playoffs, which was surprising. They were hanging with the Rockets at first, and got one game, after that, the series belonged to the Rockets. Butler had a strong season with the Timberwolves, but he might end up back on the market for next summer’s free agency.

In the regular season, he averaged 0.4 blocks, 2.0 steals and 5.3 total rebounds per game. In the playoffs, he had 0.2 blocks, 0.8 steals and 6.0 total rebounds per game. Their defense was pretty good at times, but they almost missed the playoffs this year because of how many games they didn’t take seriously.  Butler did a great job playing defense this season but needs to improve on his footwork. He’s one of the best defensive guards in the league.

Jimmy Butler has one more year on his contract and after next season, he has the power to do whatever he wants when it comes to his player option. The Wolves had a nice squad last season, finishing eighth in the West and winning a game against the Rockets in the playoffs. Butler needs to be with the Wolves one season and try to figure things out, he may not want to be there, but, as far as right now, he needs to act like he wants to be there.
