In Civ 7, players will enter into the Exploration Age at the conclusion of the Antiquity Age, or by using the new Advanced Start feature to start in this age. Either way, this will feel much different than Antiquity, and your strategy for having a solid Exploration Age will be much different. So, here are our tips to help you dominate the Exploration Age in Civ 7.
In the Exploration Age, players need to begin solidifying a win condition that they intend to pursue through the Legacy Path system. This can also begin in Antiquity, but that Age can also be focused most on staying balanced. But, to do this, you will want to begin steering your empire towards your ideal win pathway. This should be heavily delicate how you approach this age and what your goals are. You can’t afford to wait for the Modern Age to do this.

As you begin to expand outward, you will encounter (depending on your map type) lots of small islands rich with different resources and yields. These are excellent candidates for the new Town mechanic. So, you will want to make sure you are creating more Settlers for the early parts of this age to ensure you snag the most valuable resources hidden across the oceans.
As much as we are tempted to promote full manifest destiny, you will always be at risk for wars and battles on your home continent. Keep a small standing army at home and make sure you are preparing for anything that might come your way. This is also a good way to be primed and ready for the Modern Age, which puts some of the emphasis back on your home empire, whereas much of it lies overseas in the Exploration Age.
When navigating throughout the Exploration Age, you’ll have to deal with Rough Waters and their effects on your naval units. Make sure you have stopovers and other ways to handle this and don’t leave your sailors shanghaied!
This one may sound a bit redundant, but it really is true: the Exploration Age really is all about exploring. This isn’t just a gameplay suggestion from us, but we also want players to embrace the spirit of the game and get into the mindset of your Leader and Civ. Would your leader send troops overseas to conquer and colonize distant lands, or would your intent simply be to spread your culture or find new trade partners?
