Teamfight Tactics Item Tier List Patch 9.23: It’s Like Harry Potter meets Legolas out There

Publish Date: November 29, 2019

One of the most important aspects of Team Fight Tactics are the items. That is why players need to know which ones they should focus on and which ones they should stay away from. Here are the best and worst items in Patch 9.23.

This list will only include combined items.

Tier 1:

  • Guinsoo’s Rageblade
  • Hextech Gunblade
  • Hush
  • Jeweled Gauntlet
  • Luden’s Echo
  • Morellonomicon
  • Rabadon’s Deathcap
  • Seraph’s Embrace
  • Spear of Shojin
  • Sword Breaker
  • Warmog’s Armor

When looking at top tier items it is most important to see what ones are being used for multiple champions along with base items that are being fought over the most on carousels. Currently, Needlessly Large Rod is being fought over along with Recurve Bow and Tear of the Goddess. This is due there being an Ocean, Mage and general ability focused meta. With Kindred, Shadow and Light mostly out of the meta, basic attack damage is not currently as strong. Rangers still pack a punch, which is why Guinsoo’s Rageblade is still one of the best items in the game. Champions like Ezreal and Twitch, who rely more on their abilities, are currently topping the ranger tier lists instead of Kindred, Vayne and Ashe, who rely more on their basic attack damage. Luden’s is also able to be used with a number of abilities to pump out consistent damage without worrying about dodges.

Tip: Try Luden’s on Soraka.

Tier 2:

  • Bloodthirster
  • Deathblade
  • Dragon’s Claw
  • Hand of Justice
  • Iceborn Gauntlet
  • Inferno Cinder
  • Ionic Spark
  • Mage’s Cap
  • Phantom Dancer
  • Redemption
  • Runaan’s Hurricane
  • Statikk Shiv
  • Thieves Gloves
  • Zepher

Another strong group in the current meta is Predators. This is why items like Statikk Shiv and Runaan’s Hurricane can come in and help create a hyper-carry in Kog’Maw. Along with this are the first spatula items in Inferno Cinder and Mage’s Cap. Even though Brand was hot-fixed, he is still very top tier along with Annie. Inferno and Mages are both extremely powerful synergies. This is also why Dragon’s Claw has come back into the meta. Lastly, for as long as Rise of Elements is the set, Zepher will have a place near the top tier as it can help take out at least one guaranteed carry for most of the fight.

Tip: Mage’s Cap Malphite or Annie and enjoy the fireworks.

Tier 3:

  • Force of Nature
  • Frozen Heart
  • Frozen Mallet
  • Giant Slayer
  • Guardian Angel
  • Infinity Edge
  • Locket of Iron Solari
  • Red Buff
  • Talisman of Light
  • Trap Claw
  • Warden’s Mail

Force of Nature will never be bottom tier and as is still giving players an extra unit, it is just not top tier because there are so many top tier comps that only need seven champions. With that, trying to get double spatula is not as important as getting a tear or the other base items mentioned in the first section. Because Glacial is so strong, Frozen Mallet moves up from tier four as well. Getting four Glacials is relatively easy because Ezreal, Olaf and either Braum, Volibear or Warwick are crucial to the top comps. So, Frozen Mallet is not needed but can be a nice addition when going for six. Throwing one on another Ranger to pair with Ezreal can still have its benefits. Red Buff is in this tier because of Light no longer being extremely viable and Locket is still a decent item but bunching champions together is only useful for four or six wardens due to Berserkers being so strong.

Tip: Don’t forget that Red Buff still applies for Sivir and Ezreal as their abilities are on hit.

Tier 4:

  • Berserker Axe
  • Blade of the Ruined King
  • Quicksilver
  • Rapid Firecannon
  • Repeating Crossbow
  • Thornmail
  • Titanic Hydra
  • Youmu’s Ghostblade
  • Zeke’s Herald

Will Quicksilver ever be all that useful? Or Repeating Crossbow? The ideas behind them are solid and in very rare situations they can work. Quicksilver can help keep a Kog’Maw or Mage from being harassed by a LeBlanc and Repeating Crossbow is a decent last option with Light. Other than that they are in a pretty bad spot. Also Titanic could move up if Bloodthirster or Guinsoo’s are ever nerfed hard enough as it can be useful specifically on Olaf. Lastly, because basic attacks are not currently favored, Rapid Firecannon, Thornmail and Zeke’s Herald should never be first options. Rapid Firecannon can be used on Ezreal of Kog’Maw but other items should take precedence.

Tip: Definitely throw a Titanic Hydra on Olaf if you have nothing else, he will still pour out a solid amount of damage.

This list will change and be updated with each new patch.
