Zdeno Chara Signs 1-Year Extension

The Boston Bruins signed defenseman Zdeno Chara to a one-year extension. Chara’s extension guarantees $2 million in base salary and $1.75 million performance incentives.

According to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun that a majority of his bonus is measured through his playing time in 2019-2020 season. Additionally, Chara receives $250,000 by making the playoffs and another $250,000 if the Bruins win the Stanley Cup.

The Slovak native is currently playing his 21st NHL season. He was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in 1997. After four seasons with New York, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators during the 2001 NHL Draft. He joined the Bruins in 2006 as a free agent and made an impact ever since.

Since joining the Bruins, Chara won the Norris Trophy (2008-2009) and won the Stanley Cup in 2011.
