WNBA Releases New Uniforms For This Season

The WNBA is celebrating its 25th season this year. Their jerseys for the season are stepping up for the quarter century celebration.

First, the fit of these uniforms has been improved. Nike dedicated themselves to listening to the women’s feedback and changing the uniforms. The variety in body type and shape is vast in the WNBA and Nike knows that. The new uniforms will give the women a choice of a round neck, V-neck or a new hybrid Victory neckline. The jerseys also have wider arm holes and wider body which allows for a loser fit in the abdomen and chest. Also, for the shorts there is more room throughout the thighs and glutes.

The jerseys themselves are another thing. Each of the 12 teams are getting a home, away, and rebel edition jersey. This makes the WNBA a little closer to the NBA feel where jerseys are different for each team and they do not just follow a template. Each team has a Heroine (home) Edition jersey and an Explorer Edition (away) jersey. These jerseys are your pretty standard home and away jerseys with a little bit of creativity. The standout jerseys for this season are the Rebel Edition. Each jersey is tailored specifically to the 12 different WNBA teams.

5. Los Angeles Sparks

Here the LA Sparks pay homage to all the stars in the city with the galaxy pattern on the sides of the jersey. The galaxy, combined with the black and gold, gives this uniform an outer space feeling. The uniform is clean but still bold enough to catch the eye.

4. Indiana Fever

This uniform is based on the popular television series, “Stranger Things.” The series takes place in a fiction town in Hawkins, Indiana. This bold design will catch anyone’s attention. The red lettering makes the white number stand out on the jersey which makes the lines look quite clean.

3. New York Liberty

The color of this jersey is really what makes it stand out against the rest. Also, the equality includes the torch from the Statute of Liberty. This torch within the Equality is supposed to represent the promise of equality for all. The teal color with the orange and black accents make these uniforms quite appealing.

2. Washington Mystics

The Washington Mystics have some subtle details in their jersey that put this at the runner up position. First, the “Rise” symbolizes the empowerment of women and encourages them to “rise up for what they believe in”. Also, below the “Rise” is the text of the 19th Amendment in script. This amendment gave women the right to vote. The subtle meanings of this jersey along with the actual design and flow of the jersey is what makes this jersey so great.

1. Chicago Sky

Coming in at number 1 is the Chicago Sky uniform. First, this uniform of course features the “Chi-Town” right across the chest. Also, the pattern of the jersey is meant to mimic glass-shattering. This is meant to represent the women in Chicago that have accomplished things and broke glass ceilings. The color scheme of this jersey and the meaning behind it is what makes this jersey so special.

While the WNBA does not have an official start date, they do have fresh gear. The season will start soon and the women will be ready with brand new uniforms.
