After having a short, but strong outing in the Arizona Fall League, White Sox prospect Zack Burdi should be ready for the 2019 season. He was shut down early from the Fall Leauge, but GM Rick Hahn says it’s nothing to worry about.
“He is doing well, and it is too early to be concerned about Zack Burdi” – Rick Hahn
White Sox Prospect Zack Burdi Should Be Ready For The 2019 Season
Burdi is coming off of Tommy John surgery, which made his early shut down concerning to fans. So it is good news that his shutdown is nothing to worry about. Many fans, including myself, see Burdi as the future closer of the team. He had a quick ascent through the minors after being drafted in 2016. He was able to move from Rookie ball all the way to Triple-A before the season’s end.
The White Sox bullpen has many young pitchers looking to make their mark on the league, but Burdi’s call-up should be a big one. Zack can hit 100+ on his fastball and has a strong slider. Although he can struggle with command at times, his fastball is extremely electric and has missed plenty of bats.
He is currently ranked 17th on the White Sox top prospect list. General Manager Rick Hahn also made some other comments on Burdi.
“We are pleased with where he’s at right now. We had always said that the target for him would be to be essentially back without restriction in 2019. That continues to be the case. “Keep in mind that he’s still very young, He still has relatively few minor league innings under his belt. I can certainly see him forcing his way into our picture in 2019. When, whether it’s early, middle or late, I don’t know. Let’s see where he’s at once he’s back throwing in games regularly for us. We still very much believe in his future and are pleased with where he’s at in terms of his rehab.”
