USA vs Curacao Gold Cup Quarterfinal Recap

The US men’s team had an interesting match against Curacao in the Gold Cup quarterfinal.

Three minutes in Paul Arriola played the ball into Christian Pulisic from outside of the box. Pulisic got a touch on the ball that was going in. However, Curacao keeper, Eloy Room, saved the ball and tipped it over the crossbar.

About 20 minutes later Pulisic was down on the left side of the penalty box. He’ was one-on-one with a defender. He got just enough around him to curve the ball to the back post. Teammate, Weston McKinney, headed the ball in to make it 1-0.

Then in the 31st minute, Curacao had a chance to tie it up when Gevaro Nepomuceno takes a shot top of the box. He missed wide on the far post.

Ten minutes later, Curacao was awarded a corner kick. Darryl Lochman headed the ball over the crossbar.

Pulisic dribbld into space to get another shot on goal in the 56th minute. He slid it past a Curacao defender, but the ball went past the far post only by a couple of inches.

Nepomuceno also got another shot on goal. He dribbled in on the top right of the box and took a shot. USA keeper, Sean Johnson, caught the ball to make the save.

Gyasi Zardes gave the USA another chance to score when he received a pass and tipped it over the bar.

Curacao had a really close chance of tying up the game when Leandro Bacuna shot from outside the box. He was going for right under the bar. However, Johnson made a diving save to push the ball over and make a save.

The USA made one final try in the 89th minute when Michael Bradley shot from outside the box. It was a fast-grounded ball that Room dove to save.

USA will move on to play Jamaica on Wednesday, July 3 at 9:00 pm EST in the semi-final. Mexico will play against Haiti in the semi-final on Tuesday, July 2 at 10:00 pm EST.
