UFC Opens Performance Institute in Mexico City

Publish Date: March 23, 2024

The original UFC Performance Institute is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. After the grand opening of the facility in May 2017, the promotion was looking to expand and create opportunities for athletes in countries outside of the United States. Two years later, the construction of a brand new institute was in the process of completion. The UFC Performance Institute Shanghai, located in Shanghai, China, officially opened their doors to athletes in June 2019.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had a worldwide impact on all major sports. For a significant period of time, the UFC was the only promotion hosting events to watch on TV. Although fans could not attend, Dana White ensured the safety of his athletes & employees. Due to the broadcasting of these events during the pandemic, the promotion was able to acquire plenty of revenue. In 2021, they found themselves having even more success, earning over $900 million in revenue. Talks began about another performance institute opening in Mexico City, Mexico. In August of 2021, White posted photos of what the potential facility would look like from the outside.

The performance institute originally planned to open in September 2023. That didn’t go as planned, but the timing couldn’t have worked out any better. The promotion scheduled a fight card in Mexico City on February 24, 2024. The main event hosted by the first Mexican-born champion in UFC history, Brandon Moreno. To make the week even more sweet for UFC fans and citizens of Mexico, Dana White held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of UFC Performance Institute Mexico City. It’s now the third UFC Performance Institute. They’ll continue searching for other countries interested in a training facility for mixed martial artists.
